"Stunning place friendly clean and amazing experience! Well over 10/10 it’s a must"

Reykjavík · Iceland · The Skjól Ritual
Step into an oceanfront geothermal lagoon at the edge of the North Atlantic, then unwind through the seven-step Skjól ritual — warm lagoon, cold plunge, sauna, mist, scrub, steam and a taste of Icelandic crowberry. Just minutes from downtown Reykjavík, the entry pass is sold by Sky Lagoon itself.
The Experience
Seven stations of warm and cold, scrub and steam — the full ritual is built into every Sky Lagoon entry pass, towel and Sky Body Scrub included.
The ritual comes with the ticket — four steps from choosing a pass to your first warm soak.
Pick the entry pass that suits you. The Saman pass uses shared changing facilities; the Sér pass adds a private changing room and premium Sky body products. Both include full lagoon access and the 7-step Skjól ritual.
Reserve a time slot — late afternoon and evening visits line up with sunset over the Atlantic, and winter slots give you a chance of aurora over the water. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your visit.
Reserve through GetYourGuide — the entrance ticket is sold by Sky Lagoon ehf, the official operator. You get instant confirmation by email and a mobile voucher to scan at the door.
Travel about 15 minutes from central Reykjavík, check in with your voucher, and ease into the warm lagoon. From there, work through the seven Skjól steps at your own pace — no rush, no experience needed.

Field Notes
What each station is, how the warm-cold rhythm flows, whether you have to do every step, and why it's part of every pass.
The 7-step Skjól ritual is the thing people actually fly to Sky Lagoon for. “Skjól” means shelter, and the ritual is a fixed sequence of seven stations — warm water, cold water, sauna, mist, scrub, steam and a crowberry finish — that you move through at your own pace inside the turf-house wing of the lagoon. It is included in every admission pass, Saman and Sér alike; there is no separate “ritual upgrade” to buy. Most visitors take an unhurried 45 to 60 minutes to complete the full circuit.
Sky Lagoon itself sits on the Kársnes seafront in Kópavogur, about 10–15 minutes from central Reykjavík, with a 75-metre infinity edge looking out over Skerjafjörður. It opened in 2021, and the ritual was designed around the same idea as the lagoon — an Icelandic bathing tradition staged at the literal edge of the sea.
1 · Laug — the warm lagoon. You start in the geothermal lagoon itself, bath-warm water with the infinity edge dissolving into the ocean. Tip: don’t rush this — let your muscles loosen and your body warm right through before the cold.
2 · Kuldi — the cold plunge. A short, sharp dip into cold water. It’s brief and bracing, and the warm-then-cold contrast is the whole point. Exhale slowly and you’ll last longer than you think.
3 · Ylur — the sauna. A warm sauna with a wide window facing the sea — the warmth comes with a view, which makes it easy to linger. This is where the heat really sinks in after the plunge.
4 · Súld — the cold mist. Step under a cool drizzle that resets you between the heat steps. A gentler cooldown than the plunge, and a nice palate-cleanser before the scrub.
5 · Mýkt — the Sky Body Scrub. You work in Sky Lagoon’s own salt-and-mineral body scrub to exfoliate and soften the skin. This is the famous Sky Body Scrub — it’s part of the ritual, not an add-on. If you have allergies, glance at the ingredients first.
6 · Gufa — the steam room. Steam opens up everything the scrub started, so the minerals settle in. Stay until you feel the scrub fully absorb, then rinse.
7 · Saft — shower and crowberry elixir. You shower off, then taste krækiber — the wild Icelandic crowberry — as a small drink to close the circuit. Most people drift straight back into the lagoon afterward, skin tingling.
No. The seven steps are a recommended flow, not a rulebook. The warm-cold-warm rhythm works best in sequence — that contrast bathing is the tradition the ritual is built on — but nobody is timing you. You can repeat the lagoon and sauna as often as you like, linger longer at a step you enjoy, or skip the cold plunge if it isn’t for you. Going in order simply gives you the experience as it was designed.
Done unhurried, the full ritual runs about 45 to 60 minutes, though plenty of people stretch a visit to two or three hours by cycling back through the lagoon. Reviewers consistently single the ritual out as the highlight — the scrub-and-steam combination and the cold plunge come up again and again as the moments that made the trip. Because it’s bundled into the price rather than sold separately, the ritual is effectively free value on top of lagoon access: there’s no reason not to do it.
Both the Saman pass (shared changing, from about $116 — check live pricing) and the Sér pass (private changing room, from about $145) include the same lagoon access, the same full 7-step ritual, a towel, and the Sky Body Scrub. The only difference between the passes is the changing experience, not the ritual. A bar drink is not included, and the minimum age is 12. Whichever pass you pick, the seven steps are identical.

Check Availability & BookWhat the ritual is, the order of the steps, how long it takes, and why it comes with every Sky Lagoon pass.
It's Sky Lagoon's signature Skjól ritual — a sequence of seven stations (warm lagoon, cold plunge, sauna, cold mist, body scrub, steam room, and a shower with a crowberry drink) set in the turf-house wing of the lagoon. It's an Icelandic contrast-bathing tradition, and it comes built into your admission. You can check availability for any date.
In order: 1) Laug, the warm lagoon; 2) Kuldi, the cold plunge; 3) Ylur, the sea-facing sauna; 4) Súld, a cool mist; 5) Mýkt, the Sky Body Scrub; 6) Gufa, the steam room; 7) Saft, a shower plus a taste of krækiber, the wild Icelandic crowberry. Together they make one warm-cold-warm circuit.
Most visitors say it's the best part of the visit — the body scrub and steam combination and the cold plunge are the moments reviewers mention most. Since it's already included in the ticket rather than sold separately, there's no extra cost to weigh; see exactly what it costs for the pass.
Nothing extra — the ritual is included in every admission pass, both Saman and Sér. You only pay for the entry pass itself (Saman from around $116, Sér from around $145; check live pricing), and the full 7-step ritual, towel and Sky Body Scrub all come with it. Here's the full what it costs breakdown.
No. It's included with your pass but entirely optional, and you can do as much or as little of it as you like. Plenty of guests just soak in the lagoon, while others run the full circuit two or three times. It's there if you want it, at no extra charge.
The order is recommended rather than required. The warm-cold-warm rhythm — lagoon, cold plunge, sauna, mist, scrub, steam, crowberry finish — is the traditional flow and feels best done in sequence, but you're free to repeat steps, linger, or skip the cold plunge. Pack accordingly with what to bring.
Yes — the shower is actually step 7 of the ritual (Saft). After the steam room you rinse off and are served a small krækiber crowberry drink to close the circuit. You'll also shower in the changing facilities before and after, as at any Icelandic geothermal spa.
Around 45 to 60 minutes done unhurried, though there's no clock on you — many people stretch the whole visit to two or three hours by cycling back through the lagoon between steps. Go at your own pace and check availability for an evening slot if you want extra time.
